Support Local Families with Kids Fighting Cancer
Shirlee’s Ultimate Women’s Gym is a proud sponsor of the 14th Annual Megan’s Wings 5K and 1K Run/Walk, which will be held Saturday, September 29, 2018, in McCarthy Park in Upland. Megan’s Wings is a nonprofit dedicated to helping the families of local kids with cancer.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to support a worthy cause started by one of our own members,” said Shirlee’s owner Konnie Jystad. “Kim Savage has been a member at Shirlee’s Gym for the last two years. She and her husband, Dave, a Chaffey High School teacher and coach, established Megan’s Wings in memory of their 9-year-old daughter, Megan Savage who lost her battle to leukemia in April 2003. I’m happy our members have participated in the race in previous years, and I hope we have a big Shirlee’s presence this year as well.”
Shirlee’s invites you to join the Shirlee’s Fitness Club Team at the event. You can support the cause by:
- registering for the Run/Walk
- attending a pancake breakfast
- buying a raffle ticket
- releasing a live butterfly in memory or honor of a loved one touched by cancer.
Your support helps local families with children being treated at
- City of Hope
- Loma Linda Children’s Hospital
- Kaiser Fontana
- Kaiser Anaheim Hospitals
Megan’s Wings works with pediatric social workers and doctors to help kids with cancer and their families. Some of the services the non profit helps with include:
- providing gas & grocery cards to families
- paying for therapeutic swim lessons
- paying for supplemental nutrition to improve quality of life
- helping families with rent and car repairs
The foundation relies on the support of the community, schools, businesses, and hospitals who spread the word about Megan’s Wings and participate in local events. To register for the event, visit meganswings.org.
