Stella and Lisa
As sisters, Stella and Lisa have always supported each other. When they joined Shirlee’s Fitness Club for Women, they became workout buddies.
“I wanted to make a goal for myself, to live a healthier lifestyle but I didn’t know how to get started,” Lisa explains. “Stella and I decided to sign up with Konnie to be our personal trainer. Since training with Konnie, I have learned so much about fitness & health.”
“It was the best decision I ever made,” declares Stella. “Konnie customizes your training sessions, helps set goals, and teaches about nutrition. With Konnie’s help, I am losing weight and inches.”
“Each session is different from the next,” adds Lisa. “A good way to keep us on our toes! Konnie has taught us many exercise routines, simple enough that one day we can do them on our own! Thank you Konnie and Shirlee’s staff for guiding us in the right track to being healthy and fit!”
Stella agrees. “I really love working out at Shirlee’s. The trainers, instructors and staff are incredible. They encourage, motivate you and are there to help you. Without them I wouldn’t be on my way to attain my ultimate goal weight.”
Jessica’s Own Words
I want to start off by thanking Shirlee’s, without it I doubt I would have even started on this path to a healthier and happier lifestyle. The fact that this is an all-women’s gym really helped push me to go. I went for my first workout at Shirlee’s the same day I got my membership, and have continued to go 5 to 6 days a week since. Being actually excited about going to the gym is a great change for me. The atmosphere is very welcoming and everyone that works at Shirlee’s has been so helpful. They go out of their way to really help each and every member. There have been times while working out in the weight room that trainers approach me just to give helpful tips or better positioning.
I have really struggled with my weight the past couple of years, having the attitude of ‘why try?’—indulging in the pastas and sweets (which have always been my Achilles’ heel) and honestly doing no exercise whatsoever. I decided in June that I would try out Shirlee’s and stop making excuses for myself. Since starting with Shirlee’s I really feel better and have so much more energy. So far I have dropped 19 lbs in four months with a combination of choosing healthier foods and going to Shirlee’s as much as I can.
One of my favorite spots to work out is outside in the outdoor fitness center. It’s so nice being able to go to the gym and have such a great variety of settings to work out in, all in one place. I will not stop this weight loss journey, it’s become more of a lifestyle now.

Roberta is one of our members who recently tried personal training to see if it could help get her started on the road to fitness. Here is her story in her own words. Thank you Roberta for sharing!
My story is simple I wanted to make a lifestyle change. My doctor told me I was worn out……I had developed some health problems and it scared me.
I will be 60 in December, 2013, and I was slowing down. I decided I did not want to be an old 60-year-old person! I had been saving for a new computer and decided to take that money and invest in myself! I had been looking for someone to work with me using a more natural philosophy and approach to health.
Through a friend I found out the Spa I used to go to had reopened under the name Shirlee’s. I checked it out online and read Konnie’s bio… Her background was just what I was looking for. I signed up with Konnie for 20 personal training sessions and in 2 months it has made a huge difference. I not only have lost weight and lost inches, but my health is better and my outlook on life is better.
I look forward each week to my training session, and it keeps me anchored in my goal! My personal trainer’s knowledge has made all the difference. She has helped me understand the importance of overall health and how to pay attention to what I am eating. I eat better, and I am losing weight and inches.
In my partnership with Konnie I have learned:
- In mind—how to focus on myself to achieve an overall positive state of being again.
- In body—by looking better I feel better about myself.
- In spirit—through calmness I can focus on being an individual in my crazy, fast-paced life.
- It is not just about losing the weight, but also about making changes in how I live life everyday.
I am happy to say I recently saw my doctor and my health problems are fading away by the changes I have made in my new lifestyle.
